permissions;
For the uninitiated, Sherlock Holmes is considered to be the most visible fictional character to use what's come to be known as the Sherlock Scan. Basically, he's trained himself over the course of most of his life to observe small details about persons or situations and deduce facts from those details, all in the span of a few seconds. It's as natural to him as 2+2=4, and it happens more or less immediately when he lays eyes on someone or something.
This scene from the BBC canon is a good example, as it's been lifted almost exactly from A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four. (With a few updates and expansions.)
Obviously, this creates some problems re: infomodding. In an attempt to curb things a bit, I've given Sherlock a loss that scales back how much information he's able to blatantly reveal that he knows (as he is wont to do -- he's kind of a jackass). So, you kids who don't want him reading your deep, dark secrets? No problem! He can't talk about it, and I won't have him treat your characters any differently than he normally would.
However! He's certainly still able to make deductions about people, and those deductions could dramatically change how he reacts to certain characters. If you'd like to be involved in that, well, this post is for you!
If you'd like one of your characters to be Sherlock Scanned, let me know here! To help you out, I've provided a handy dandy form below:
no subject
DETAILS: - Victorian (160. can be picked up through her speech, manner and references. modern day dresser though)
- erm... more on her job than she 'announces'? (through conversation?)
.... idk. anything.
CANON: Sanctuary ( sanctuary wiki | paradisa wiki )
OTHER NOTES: Poke me on plurk for anything? Especially since I sucked at filling this out...
no subject
DETAILS:
*Appears to be a seven-year-old boy.
*Always wears a pair of oversized glasses
*Prefers more formal clothing. His most common outfit is a blue suit and red bowtie.
*Soccer player and skateboarder
*Fluent in English and Japanese
*Has the mannerisms and knowledge of a much older boy, although he often attempts to disguise with with childish acts.
CANON:
Here (http://paradisa.wikia.com/wiki/Edogawa_Conan_(Kudo_Shinichi)).
OTHER NOTES:
*Sherlock Holmes was Shinichi's role model. He grew up modeling himself after Sherlock, and developing his own deduction ability in a similar style. Logic, observation, and calmness. And yes, he does canonly pull of Sherlock scans all the time.
*He is a total Holmes fanboy, and has nearly everything from the entire canon memorized. And is capable of talking about it for hours.
*As Shinichi, he earned the nicknames 'Holmes of the Modern Era' and 'Great Detective of the East'
*He is technically an expy of Holmes, and there are numerous reference to Holmes canon in his series. A lot of his acquaintances are based off of Holmes characters.
*He once solved a murder case at a Holmes fanclub retreat.
CHARACTER NAME: Danny Fenton
DETAILS:
*Black hair, blue eyes, a little scrawny for his age
*nervous and paranoid about something
*has a habit of disappearing at odd times
CANON: Here (http://paradisa.wikia.com/wiki/Danny_Fenton_(Danny_Phantom))
OTHER NOTES:
Danny is very paranoid about keeping the whole half-ghost thing secret. I'd be open to figuring it out eventually, but lol, I'd expect that Sherlock won't believe in ghosts.
CHARACTER NAME: Will Stanton
DETAILS:
*twelve year old British boy from 1970s Buckinghamshire
*brown hair, grey eyes, absolutely ordinary in appearance
*solemn, but vague and absent minded at times.
CANON: Here (http://paradisa.wikia.com/wiki/Will_Stanton)
no subject
DETAILS: -Businessman (through his clothes mostly)
-Nervous habit of rubbing the fingers of his left hand together
-Missing something important (his pager; he might reach for it in his pocket absent-mindedly, but it's his loss so he doesn't have it)
-Fatherly (behavior with people he perceives to be younger than him - he's about 60)
CANON: Tron! From the beginning of the sequel, Tron Legacy. Tron Wiki (http://tron.wikia.com/wiki/Tron_Wiki)Alan's Page on said Wiki (http://tron.wikia.com/wiki/Alan_Bradley)
OTHER NOTES: He's met Sanctuary's version of Sherlock Holmes (James Watson), so he will have trouble believing Sherlock is Sherlock.

no subject
DETAILS:
- Dresses older in layers, and carries himself very proudly, he is also very particular about his appearance, smoothing his clothes down,
- He's an older English man, with very old fashioned speaking habits (Lady of the night = Prostitute, adult images = porn etc.) as well as others, very Victorian like Helen, and he'll make references similar to her
- Seems rather unphased by 'mythical' creatures/aliens/anything weird when it comes non-human/powers and stuff
- Is more often winded and limps, and seems arthritic though he does attempt to hide it and refuses help when it's offered for the most part < Part of his permanent loss
- Popculture inept...and anything outside of scientific uses of something is beyond him when it comes to technology (he still prefers the telegraph)
- Mentally as fast as him and will probably add or agree to any deductions he makes and tells him
- Plays the violin and is also a doctor both scientifically and medically
- A bit of an inventor, he's designed a weather machine and a machine to help keep himself alive (with some help with that)
- Chances are while Sherlock is looking him over he'll see James doing the same
CANON: Sanctuary Wiki (http://sanctuary.wikia.com/wiki/James_Watson) Paradisa Wiki (http://paradisa.wikia.com/wiki/James_Watson)
OTHER NOTES:
- James is literally Holmes in his canon and will more then likely attempt to challenge Sherlock, having another with the same skills will be a great interest to him (who isn't Conan)
- Watson jokes are old hat to him...but do feel free to make them
- Erm in a lot of ways? Think of him as a much more tactful, older Sherlock
- Poke me on Plurk or AIM with specifics if something is not covered here or on either wiki page, I do try and keep at least his current episode list up to date and add in what head canon I think up as I go along
no subject
DETAILS:
-is from early Medieval times so clothing usually reflects this
-if in modern clothing, he tends to toy with it since he's not used to it (buttons? what are buttons? and zippers are contraptions from hell)
-is a high-functioning alcoholic. for serious.
-was a vagabond until he arrived here so he tends to be happy when moving around or doing something
-he cannot be still and quiet to save his life
-is an extremely capable fighter so this should be reflected in his physical movements
-always has a sword strapped to his waist unless stated otherwise
-the only piece of jewelry he has is a metal chain from which hang a gold ring and a dragon scale with his family crest on it (he's actually from a noble family, but he doesn't talk about that a lot)
-is one of the knights of the Round Table, but if Sherlock didn't know the Earth revolves around the Sun I'm guessing the only round table he's interested in is the one the body was found on. So. :/
-has great hair? idk
CANON: At the Merlin wiki (http://merlin.wikia.com/wiki/Gwaine_(character)) and if you need anything else, hit me on plurk/IM/PM I can talk for hours about this man. Really. I've done it before.
I THOUGHT I DID THIS BUT NOOOO
DETAILS: Just C&Ping what I put for House
- 5'8 1/2"
- 123lbs (pretty underweight, he might show slight signs of malnourishment despite being able to eat a horse's weight in food.)
- White hair (Yes, all of it is white. No dye done here)
- While he keeps his hair fairly short (at most a small pony tail), it is noticeable that the style of cut or the way he groomed it...probably changes at least once a month. To explain why he has 234323 hairstyles in canon, my headcanon explanation is that it's a self-conscious thing. He's super self-conscious about his appearance, and he expresses this by fidgeting with his hair and attempting to change it to look more "normal". It...doesn't work well because it doesn't change the fact he looks weird, but it makes him feel better for a bit so he keeps trying.
- Silver-gray eyes (said to be slightly near-sighted but doesn't wear glasses. Might be seen squinting at stuff more than someone with 20/20 vision but at most all he'd need is reading glasses)
- Scar on face. I don't care if it looks like paint or tattoos in the art, it's a scar. It's an older scar from when he was a kid.
- Slim, athletic build. Similar to an acrobat or gymnast.
- Pale pale pale. He's spent most of his life outside, so I'm sure there's a slight tan. Buuut being English? Yeah, not that much of a noticeable tan.
- British accent, but to the trained ear- it's weird due to him trying to emulate Mana. Most of the time he tries to sound like a proper, classy British accent- and after 10 years of practice he's pretty good. However his original accent I headcanon to be a country-side accent (for sanity, hilarity and for Ena, we headcanon northern English) and it's rather thick on top of it. This slips into his speech sometimes when he's angry, very irritated, surprised or among trusted friends (okay, with House it will be the first three)
- Clothing, he alternates between the more formal 19th century clothes you see in canon and very comfy clothes like hoodies and jeans. The main things to note are 1) Always wearing gloves of some sort. 2) almost always wears long sleeves or has a jacket that he can quickly cover up with. He only seems to wear short sleeves when he's in situations where he doesn't have time to be self-conscious (training, battles, etc). 3) Clothing isn't badly treated, but not super well treated either. He'll leave buttons undone, his tie is sometimes loose, wrinkles aren't uncommon, etc. He's more concerned with not standing out than looking prim and proper.
- Oh and he'll never wearing his Exorcist uniform. Since you know, at his canon point he's kinda...fired.
- under his clothes he always wears a gold chain necklace with a purple gem that glows just slightly. It's magic and for the sake of resisting mind control- since Griffith of Berserk is a big fat douche.
- Eh yeah you know about the scars. He earned an additional small one right on the sternum that's about a golden dollar in size- gray skin and that sort of deal. This is what happens when you try to experiment with Cruxis Crystals to solve your problems.
- He doesn't slouch. That would take away inches from his height.
- His stepping is pretty light. You have to be light on your feet to move like he does.
- Wears boots for practicality reasons. Has yet to be won over by sneakers. Since you only see his feet...once in canon during a hospital stay, I'm headcanoning that he's just accustomed to wearing shoes all the time unless he's in bed or will be home all day.
- If you do see his feet, while they aren't horribly disfigured they aren't the greatest. In fact they probably look typical of a guy who spent most of his life walking place to place in craptastic 19th century shoes that poor people could afford in all weather conditions.
- His teeth aren't that great either, since what is a dentist? At least a couple broken or missing molars. Also Hoshino likes to draw him with larger than average canines. idek.
- Left arm is gross and blood red in color. There is actually no blood vessels in here- so no pulse. Nerves are in there however. In of the cross thing on the back of his hand, there's a green glow unless he's in the Dead Zone or w/e. Oh yeah, and it's made up of a substance that the only way to cause it any damage without using powerful dark or light magics? Is to take a diamond tip jackhammer to it. And that would just dent it.
His right hand is normal, and his fingernails are kept cut short on his normal hand (You'd probably need an Exorcist with Innocence nail clippers to get his left hand nails). Like his feet, callouses and evidence of a life with a lot of hard labor.
CANON: Sadly...my wiki goes more indepth with more accuracies than the fandom wiki /cries
OTHER NOTES: Can't think of anything?! Anything i miss, you can ping me about.
Re: I THOUGHT I DID THIS BUT NOOOO
/NOW DONE.
no subject
DETAILS:
-6’4” Yes, I’m serious.
-Hair is golden “streaked with silver” It’s not grey hair; it’s literally silver colored. Nevermind that the icons don’t show this. It’s book canon and I play book canon, damn it.
-build is slight, she’s tall and skinny by nature, but not entirely without muscle. She used to be quite an athlete and hasn’t let it all go downhill
-pointy ears, duh
-Eyes: blue and kind of creepy. Intense gazes are frequent. You may feel like she’s looking into your soul (she might be). It’s also said that her eyes are the only visible hint of her age, being “deep wells of memory” But somehow Sherlock doesn’t strike me as being that sentimental about eyes…
-Almost always dresses in a white medieval-esque gown. If she’s wearing anything else, she tends to favor blue, green, and gold. Modern clothes- Bah!
-Always wears a gold band on her right index finger. It’s her wedding ring.
-Skin: soft and super pale- in other words, obvious noble here.
-Posture and bearing are unmistakably regal. She stands almost perfectly straight, is prone to emphasizing her height to literally “look down” on people who irritate her. But she’s also terribly courteous- will always attempt to meet people’s eyes, even if she has to bend down, stands to greet people, etc. Moves with an almost impossible grace
-Very musical- trained vocalist and skilled in a number of instruments. Plays the harp most often- has the callouses to reflect this
-Maternal like whoa. Both in the “will look after you” way and the “will bring the smack down if you deserve it” way. She’s older than nearly everyone here, so she feels justified in acting as a mentor figure 90% of the time
-Completely unfazed by complements and will brush them off. She’s far too used to having her beauty praised for it to make any kind of impression. Calling her clever, sneaky, observant, powerful, etc is far more likely to please her.
-Trying to place her accent will frustrate him beyond belief. Sample Her voice is awesome and vaguely British-esque, but as it is actually Middle-Earthian, it won’t correspond exactly to anything he’s familiar with.
-Worth noting that she DOES NOT have Nenya, her Ring of Power, since it’s her loss.
CANON: Para wiki has the specific backstory that I'm using since she has more than one. LOTR wiki fan site
OTHER NOTES: Uh, she had super psychic powers and all. She's also very observant herself.
CHARACTER NAME: Xena
DETAILS:
-5’9”
-Muscular like whoa. She *is* a warrior.
-Probably a quite a few small scars, but nothing big (despite all logic), Calloused hands from wielding a sword constantly.
-Tends to slouch, but carries herself with confidence, almost cockiness. More prone to shoulder punching than hugs. Has difficulty expressing deep emotions. Acts like she doesn’t give a fuck, but she really does. If you catch her on a sentimental topic, she slouches more, is quieter, less likely to joke.
-ALWAYS in her skimpy armor, carrying a sword, her chakram, and a breast knife unless stated otherwise.
-May seem modest, but when she shrugs off people calling her a hero, it’s really because she feels she doesn’t deserve it. Massive atoner complex
-Said atoner complex is completely deserved. She could legit be tried for war crimes and used to be known as a “Destroyer of Nations.” This has shaped her opinions on…everything ever.
-Ancient Greek but knows all sorts of Greco-Roman figures and even some from the Bible. Fjslkjgla Her canon is an anachronism stew. Also is completely used to gods dropping in. Has issues/sexual tension with Ares. It’s a weird situation.
CANON: Para wiki, Xena wiki
CHARACTER NAME: Catelyn Stark
DETAILS:
-Cat’s a normal human being. Nothing physically outstanding about her at all. She’s a handsome woman and it’s probable that she was once a beauty in her youth, but that’s about it.
-Pale and soft skin of a noble woman with this one too. She was born in the South, but she’s spent the last twenty or so years in the North, so she’s also very used to cold.
-Emotionally traumatized. She hides it well and can, in fact, appear as something of an ice queen, but Cat has been through a lot in canon and is very likely in the midst of a rather deep depression.
-emphasis on restraint: this is why she hides her trauma well. Public presentation is very important to her
-Hard, tough, to the point: Unlike Galadriel, she has no patience for mind games and beating around the bush.
-I don’t know if they wear wedding rings in Westros….May get back to you on that.
-Very religious- talks about “The Seven,” Expressions : “Seven Hells,” “Gods be Good.” That sort of thing.
-Mama bear. Has five kids. Fiercely protective, but none of them are here
-Her husband’s bastard son *is* here and she resents him a lot. Like a lot a lot. Thinly veiled contempt and hostility are the norm.
-ETA: Scars! I forgot this! She has some very deep scars on her hands from grabbing on to the business end of a knife during this incident. Consequently, her hands are stiff and movement is effected.
CANON: Para wiki, Game of Thrones wiki

DETAILS:
Deduce away! Everything is on the table. Notable details:
- Mildmay has a scar across his face. From the shape of the scar and its markings, it's obvious that: 1) Mildmay has no feeling in the left side of his face due to the scar, 2) Mildmay received the scar from a dagger, and in a fight, quickly and haphazardly, 3) Mildmay received the scar a long time ago, more than ten years, 4) the scar at one point became infected.
- Mildmay's scarred hands show signs of having to climb with them often on surfaces not made for climbing. His hands are worn with obvious signs of work and labor. There are also occasional cuts, showing signs that he's been stabbed lightly and shallowly. The injuries are consistent with knife-fighting.
- Mildmay is suspicious and wary of magic, law enforcement, and mention of ghosts. Infer into that what you will.
- Sherlock may be able to tell that Mildmay keeps a butterfly knife in his boot. It's reconciled from view, but possibly how he walks, combined with the other obvious familiarity with knives? IDK this one is totes up to you, man.
- Mildmay dresses in a very exacting fashion, but not fashionably. His clothes look a bit late 19th centuryish, and are almost entirely black, save the undershirt and cravat. They are always clean and well-buttoned, never messy or out of place. He keeps his hair, red, back in a braid. He refuses to be seen disheveled.
- Has a limp originating in his upper left leg. The injury is inconsistent with any scientific or medical diagnosis, but it's clearly injured, buckles under too much weight, and cannot twist straight like a healthy leg would. He leans on a heavy carved wooden cane to compensate.
- Mildmay always checks a room before entering, surveying it for escape routes, possible weapons, and possible sources of confrontation.
- Mildmay has excellent reflexes and balance, despite his leg.
- Mildmay is extremely observant, and is always looking at something, other people, his surroundings. He rarely completely veges out, even if he doesn't talk much.
- Though Sherlock probably doesn't have the cultural information relevant to process this data, Mildmay's accent is fairly de rigueur for people from the Lower City sections of Melusine, Marathat. To a modern Earth-dwelling human, however, it just sounds a lot like a Southern United States accent, specifically from around the vicinity of Tennessee. Mildmay pronounces all French words by American pronunciation rules.
CANON: Mildmay's canon is fairly obscure, there isn't much wiki info on it. I however am a weird encyclopaedia on the subject and am happy to field questions.
OTHER NOTES: mildmay is an extremely sherlock scannable character, so i just wanted to throw this here, even if they never meet in person!
